Leszek the White’s Trail

Route: Biskupin – Gąsawa – Marcinkowo Górne – Szelejewo – Gąsawka – Bełki – Drewno – Niestronno

The route mostly follows dirt roads or tarmac roads with negligible traffic. Behind Oćwieka an alternative forest path that goes along the Gąsawka can be taken, but the last section is far more difficult to negotiate than the parallel asphalt road.

The trail can also be followed by bike; however, for many cyclists it is a fairly difficult route, especially from the village of Szelejewo, as it leads across terrain that is attractive in terms of landscape, yet quite undulating and mostly forested.

The trail starts at the gate of Biskupin’s Archaeological Museum. First go along the tracks of Żnin County Railway, the narrow-gauge train line that runs in the tourist season, and walk across the village of Biskupin to Marcinkowo Górne. In the vicinity, Prince Leszek the White paid the highest price for his attempts to reunite Polish lands under royal rule. A monument to him stands in the village, as does a manor of historical value. The last section of the trail leads along a cobbled road to the first buildings in Niestronno.
