St. Martin’s Church in Żnin
The church was built in the village of Góra (today it is a city district) and is considered the oldest sanctuary in Żnin. The local parish dates back to 1301. The church, which is based on a Gothic layout, was built in the 14 th century, but numerous reconstructions deprived the building of its original character. Today the church is a combination of elements from different periods and represents many artistic styles. First of all, the 17 th -century Manneristic main altar, which was reconstructed in the first half of the 19 th century, deserves special attention. It is decorated with sculptures of St. Peter and St. Paul, and a picture of the patron – St. Martin. The interior design also includes Rococo (the pulpit and baptismal font) and Neo-Baroque (two side altars and the choir) elements. There is a Neo-Gothic gate from the second half of the 19 th century leading to the churchyard.
